Copyright
Long Story Short
- You retain the copyright to all your work (and you always will)!
- Only post work that you created (or were given express permission to post). We take plagiarism very seriously!
Your Rights
This is spelled out more fully in our Terms of Service, but suffice it to say that you will always retrain the copyright to your work. Uploading it to EarlyCanvas doesn't mean we own it (we don't). It just means you give us the right to post it.
Our Rights
As just mentioned, when you upload your art to the site you give us "a perpetual, irrevocable, world-wide, royalty free and non-exclusive license to use, distribute, reproduce, modify and publicly display such Content on the Service". That simply means that you give us a non-exclusive right to post the work and that you can't suddenly revoke that right (don't worry, we'll never stop you from removing your own work) or start charging us to display your work.
We're not here to steal your creations. We're here to help you get it out there to the world.
Plagiarism
We take plagiarism very, VERY seriously. You MUST own the copyright to any work you post on EarlyCanvas (or have express permission from the copyright holder to post it here). In legal mumbo jumbo: "You agree not to make available any Content that infringes any patent, trademark, trade secret, copyright or other proprietary rights of any party."
When we are made aware of cases of plagiarism, we will remove all your art, block you from the site, and close your account with a message that says "Account closed by the adminstrators because of suspected plagiarism." right under your name. Meaning your may still appear in search engine results, but all it will say about you is that you were suspected of plagiarism.
I say again, we take this stuff very seriously.
If you discover that your work has been plagarized on EarlyCanvas please contact us right away and explain the situation. Be sure to include the URL of the page where the art has been plagarized on EarlyCanvas and the URL of the page where your art apperared elsewehere on the internet (and was accredited to you).
